The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the market value increased by 6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Sausage Production in MENA
In value terms, sausage production expanded notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 8.4%. The level of production peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports in MENA
In 2021, exports of sausages and similar products of meat in MENA reached X tons, surging by 7.7% against 2020 figures. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +79.1% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 49%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sausage exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -22.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together generating a 28% share of total exports. The following exporters - Palestine (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - together made up 6.2% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sausage exports from Turkey stood at +6.3%. At the same time, Tunisia (+62.1%), Saudi Arabia (+28.2%), the United Arab Emirates (+21.3%) and Israel (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +62.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Palestine (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+16 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (+3.6 p.p.) and Tunisia (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Palestine (-6 p.p.) and Turkey (-7.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest sausage supplying countries in MENA were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Palestine ($X), together accounting for 83% of total exports. Israel, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
Among the main exporting countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +58.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -26% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, purchases abroad of sausages and similar products of meat was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sausage imports stood at $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -21.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons), distantly followed by Iraq (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) were the major importers of sausages and similar products of meat, together mixing up 78% of total imports. Qatar (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Palestine (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +69.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sausages and similar products of meat in MENA, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Iraq, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Saudi Arabia stood at +18.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-4.0% per year) and Iraq (+1.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -5.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 9.8% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
