The MENA's semiconductor LED market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, growing by 24% against the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a remarkable increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Semiconductor Led Production in MENA

In value terms, semiconductor LED production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +26.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Exports in MENA

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) decreased by -2.3% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 183%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In value terms, semiconductor LED exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 98% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Oman (X units) and Turkey (X units) prevails in exports structure, together making up 85% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), making up a 5.6% share of total exports. Tunisia (X units) and Jordan (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Tunisia (with a CAGR of +123.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest semiconductor LED supplier in MENA, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey totaled +43.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+48.4% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-5.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, waning by -11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (-4.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Semiconductor Led Imports

Imports in MENA

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs), when their volume increased by 34% to X units. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 132%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, semiconductor LED imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 164%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Israel (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) were the key importers of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) in 2021, amounting to near 22% and 22% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Jordan (X units), Turkey (X units), Yemen (X units), Morocco (X units), Oman (X units) and Qatar (X units), together comprising a 44% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Yemen (with a CAGR of +80.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 60% of total imports. Qatar, Jordan, Morocco, Oman and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +59.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, faced a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Yemen ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
