In value terms, wood tool exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) represented the major exporter of tools of wood, creating 72% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), generating a 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Palestine (X tons) - each recorded a 4% share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +32.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+41.7%) and Palestine (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +41.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey and Egypt increased by +41 and +15 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest wood tool supplier in MENA, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 7.6% share.
In Turkey, wood tool exports increased at an average annual rate of +20.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+9.0% per year) and Egypt (+30.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 22%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
Wood tool imports rose modestly to X tons in 2021, surging by 4.2% against 2020. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -18.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood tool imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed prominent growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Iraq (X tons) represented the key importer of tools of wood, mixing up 46% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Algeria (5.9%), the United Arab Emirates (5.7%) and Egypt (4.9%). The following importers - Turkey (X tons), Libya (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Iran (X tons), Oman (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) - together made up 21% of total imports.
Iraq was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tools of wood imports, with a CAGR of +31.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+21.8%), Syrian Arab Republic (+9.8%), Yemen (+8.3%), Algeria (+6.4%), Iran (+5.6%), Libya (+5.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Morocco (-3.9%), Saudi Arabia (-4.7%), Tunisia (-6.3%), Turkey (-7.3%) and Egypt (-13.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Iraq (+41 p.p.), Oman (+1.7 p.p.) and Algeria (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Tunisia (-2.6 p.p.), Morocco (-2.7 p.p.), Turkey (-6.1 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (-11.1 p.p.) and Egypt (-19.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Iraq ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tools of wood in MENA, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 9.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Iraq totaled +46.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+19.4% per year) and Egypt (+8.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 62% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
