Exports by Country

Turkey represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 45% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (11%), Iran (8.8%), Israel (8.5%) and Jordan (8.2%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to anionic surface-active agents (excl. soap) exports from Turkey stood at +23.1%. At the same time, Jordan (+41.9%), Iran (+9.0%), the United Arab Emirates (+8.2%) and Israel (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +41.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-1.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+30 p.p.) and Jordan (+7.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Israel and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -4.4% and -17.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) emerged as the largest anionic surface-active agents (excl. soap) supplier in the Middle East, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +21.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+6.8% per year) and Israel (+3.8% per year).

In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Israel ($X per ton) and Jordan ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

For the tenth consecutive year, the Middle East recorded growth in supplies from abroad of anionic surface-active agents (excluding soap), which increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +78.1% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
