In value terms, articles of fiber cement exports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 64%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), constituting a 6.8% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to articles of fiber cement exports from Turkey stood at +3.4%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+14.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +14.9% from 2012-2022. Based on 2022 figures, articles of fiber cement export price increased by +24.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 41% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, overseas purchases of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like increased by 9.4% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after four years of decline. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +34.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, articles of fiber cement imports stood at $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +70.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the largest importer of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like in the Middle East, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 46% of total imports in 2022. Qatar (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Israel (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Oman (X tons). All these countries together took near 47% share of total imports. Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to articles of fiber cement imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +3.2%. At the same time, Qatar (+16.7%), Kuwait (+12.1%), Iraq (+11.0%) and Israel (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2022. Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Qatar (+15 p.p.), Iraq (+5.4 p.p.), Israel (+4.7 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Oman (-1.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest articles of fiber cement importing markets in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Iraq ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports.
Iraq, with a CAGR of +17.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell in the following year.
