Articles Of Zinc Market Size in the Middle East

In 2021, the Middle Eastern articles of zinc market decreased by -6.5% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. The total consumption indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -18.5% against 2019 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, articles of zinc production fell sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in the Middle East

In 2021, approx. X tons of articles of zinc were exported in the Middle East; falling by -17% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 130% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, articles of zinc exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 96%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the major exporter of articles of zinc in the Middle East, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 71% of total exports in 2021. Turkey (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Oman (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 26% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to articles of zinc exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +2.0%. At the same time, Oman (+65.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +65.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkey (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+25 p.p.) and Oman (+9.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkey (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest articles of zinc supplier in the Middle East, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, articles of zinc exports increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-0.6% per year) and Oman (+57.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 27% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, articles of zinc export price increased by +83.2% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of articles of zinc decreased by -26.9% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 60%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, articles of zinc imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +39.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Oman (X tons), distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) were the major importers of articles of zinc, together committing 82% of total imports. The following importers - Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +51.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest articles of zinc importing markets in the Middle East were Oman ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 64% of total imports.

Oman, with a CAGR of +41.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
