For the third year in a row, the Middle Eastern artificial guts market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -1.3% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption showed a mild slump. In 2022, the amount of artificial guts (sausage skins) exported in the Middle East skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 179% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a resilient expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country
Turkey dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), achieving a 5.4% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the artificial guts (sausage skins) exports, with a CAGR of +15.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+11.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Iran (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+49 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Iran (-12.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest artificial guts supplier in the Middle East, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iran ($X), with a 5.6% share of total exports.
In Turkey, artificial guts exports increased at an average annual rate of +21.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Iran (-9.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 39%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, overseas purchases of artificial guts (sausage skins) were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 139%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, artificial guts imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +15.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Turkey was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 58% of total imports. Israel (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (11%). Palestine (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Palestine (+20.5%), Oman (+11.1%), Jordan (+9.9%), Kuwait (+5.2%), the United Arab Emirates (+1.7%) and Israel (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Palestine emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2022. While the share of Turkey (+11 p.p.) and Palestine (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Israel (-3.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial guts (sausage skins) in the Middle East, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +2.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (+0.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+0.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
