In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the main exporter of base metal wire and rods of agglomerated base powder, committing 71% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 19% share, followed by Israel (5.8%). Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Israel (+28.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +28.2% from 2012-2021. In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest agglomerated powder rod supplier in the Middle East, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +7.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-3.6% per year) and Israel (+21.3% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, agglomerated powder rod export price increased by +25.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 24%. In 2021, purchases abroad of base metal wire and rods of agglomerated base powder decreased by -24.8% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, agglomerated powder rod imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia represented the major importer of base metal wire and rods of agglomerated base powder in the Middle East, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 45% of total imports in 2021. Oman (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Iran (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 48% share of total imports.

Imports into Saudi Arabia decreased at an average annual rate of -10.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Jordan (+6.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +6.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Oman (-7.8%), Iran (-11.3%), Iraq (-11.5%), Turkey (-16.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (-23.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Saudi Arabia (+11 p.p.), Jordan (+5.8 p.p.) and Oman (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkey and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -4.1% and -19.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Oman, Jordan, Iran and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

Among the main importing countries, Jordan, with a CAGR of +10.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 42% against the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, agglomerated powder rod import price increased by +33.5% against 2017 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
