As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, beet-pulp and bagasse exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 226% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), committing a 7.4% share of total exports. Yemen (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beet-pulp and bagasse exports, with a CAGR of +82.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+28.5%) and Yemen (+15.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Turkey (+79 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates and Yemen saw its share reduced by -13.2% and -31.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest beet-pulp and bagasse supplier in the Middle East, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of beet-pulp and bagasse increased by 67% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 118%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, the largest beet-pulp and bagasse importing markets in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Lebanon ($X), together accounting for 90% of total imports. Qatar, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.6%.

Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +37.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
