Exports in the Middle East

In 2022, blueberry and cranberry exports in the Middle East reached X tons, picking up by 13% against the previous year's figure. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +123.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 115% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 87% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Lebanon was the major exporter of blueberries and cranberries in the Middle East, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 52% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), Oman (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together creating a 45% share of total exports. Iran (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +67.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Lebanon ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 92% of total exports. Oman and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 5.9%.

Among the main exporting countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +78.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -16.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 58% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+24.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the eighth consecutive year, the Middle East recorded growth in supplies from abroad of blueberries and cranberries, which increased by 2.2% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 72%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Israel (X tons) represented roughly 69% of total imports in 2022. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Turkey (6.2%). The following importers - Kuwait (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) - each accounted for an 8.6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +91.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 85% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Israel, with a CAGR of +96.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, falling by -6.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, blueberry and cranberry import price increased by +22.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
