By contrast, Oman (-4.5%), Turkey (-5.0%), Saudi Arabia (-17.1%), Iraq (-17.5%) and Jordan (-17.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+46 p.p.) and Israel (+3.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq saw its share reduced by -3.2%, -5.5% and -24% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported boards, sheets, panels, tiles and similar articles of plaster not faced in the Middle East, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iraq ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +8.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iraq (-14.1% per year) and Turkey (-5.3% per year).
