In 2021, the Middle Eastern bridge market increased by 19% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Bridge Production in the Middle East

In value terms, bridge production shrank modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in the Middle East

In 2021, shipments abroad of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) decreased by -4.1% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, bridge exports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +79.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 51% of total exports. Bahrain (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 46% share of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +8.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest bridge supplier in the Middle East, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahrain ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 13% share.

In Turkey, bridge exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bahrain (+5.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+10.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) decreased by -24% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 18%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, bridge imports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the major importer of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel), constituting 45% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Iraq (X tons), Oman (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together mixing up a 39% share of total imports. The following importers - Kuwait (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) - together made up 10% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +19.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), Iraq ($X) and Oman ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 64% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain, which together accounted for a further 27%.

Among the main importing countries, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +14.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
