In 2022, the Middle Eastern cement clinker market decreased by -2.8% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, cement clinker production declined modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 8.2%. Exports in the Middle East

In 2022, overseas shipments of cement clinker decreased by -15.2% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after six years of growth. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cement clinker exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the key exporters of cement clinker, together creating 97% of total exports. Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +21.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cement clinker supplying countries in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Iran ($X), together accounting for 86% of total exports. Saudi Arabia and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

Oman, with a CAGR of +22.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 28%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Iran ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2022, the amount of cement clinker imported in the Middle East contracted to X tons, dropping by -13.1% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 169% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cement clinker imports dropped to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 147%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Oman (X tons), distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Israel (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) were the largest importers of cement clinker, together constituting 96% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +43.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Jordan ($X), Oman ($X) and Israel ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 63% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +42.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
