In 2022, overseas shipments of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures decreased by -10.4% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +29.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Turkey dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures exports, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012 to 2022. The United Arab Emirates (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+27 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-22.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest ceramic sanitary ware supplier in the Middle East, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 4.3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +6.4%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 9.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Turkey stood at $X per unit.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, after three years of decline, there was growth in purchases abroad of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures, when their volume increased by 1.6% to X units. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X units) and Iraq (X units) represented roughly 54% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units), Jordan (X units), Lebanon (X units) and Kuwait (X units), together constituting a 28% share of total imports. Oman (X units) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +9.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Iraq ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 65% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Turkey, with a CAGR of +14.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, growing by 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Lebanon ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
