Ceramic Tile Market Size in the Middle East

The Middle Eastern ceramic tile market expanded rapidly to $X in 2022, surging by 9.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the Middle East

In 2022, overseas shipments of ceramic tiles decreased by -18% to X square meters for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, ceramic tile exports shrank to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.8% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 28%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X square meters) was the key exporter of ceramic tiles, making up 57% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Iran (X square meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X square meters), together mixing up a 35% share of total exports. The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X square meters), Oman (X square meters) and Palestine (X square meters) - together made up 8.1% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to ceramic tile exports from Turkey stood at +3.4%. At the same time, Iran (+35.0%), Palestine (+10.3%), Saudi Arabia (+8.9%) and Oman (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +35.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Iran (+17 p.p.) and Turkey (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -20.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest ceramic tile supplier in the Middle East, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Iran, with a 7% share.

In Turkey, ceramic tile exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-7.7% per year) and Iran (+24.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per square meter in 2022, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per square meter), while Saudi Arabia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2022, approx. X square meters of ceramic tiles were imported in the Middle East; with a decrease of -5.4% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of ceramic tile imports in 2022 were Saudi Arabia (X square meters), Israel (X square meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X square meters), together recording 49% of total import. Iraq (X square meters) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.6% share, followed by Oman (7.3%), Kuwait (6.9%), Yemen (6.5%) and Qatar (5.3%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +7.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 64% of total imports.

Israel, with a CAGR of +12.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per square meter, rising by 21% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per square meter), while Yemen ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
