Exports by Country
Turkey (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) were the key exporters of cereal germ in 2021, reaching approx. 40% and 32% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Israel (X tons), constituting a 13% share of total exports. Iran (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +43.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cereal germ supplying countries in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), Syrian Arab Republic ($X) and Israel ($X), together comprising 78% of total exports. These countries were followed by Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 20%.
Among the main exporting countries, Iran, with a CAGR of +37.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -11.9% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 13%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Israel ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, purchases abroad of cereal germ increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +62.9% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cereal germ imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest levels of cereal germ imports in 2021 were Turkey (X tons), together accounting for 100% of total import.
