Exports in the Middle East
In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of cheese and curd, when their volume increased by 5.4% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cheese and curd exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the major exporters of cheese and curd in the Middle East, together constituting 75% of total exports. Bahrain (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 16% share of total exports. Jordan (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +9.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cheese and curd supplying countries in the Middle East were Saudi Arabia ($X), Turkey ($X) and Bahrain ($X), together comprising 86% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Syrian Arab Republic and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +5.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East
Cheese and curd imports contracted slightly to X tons in 2022, which is down by -1.5% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cheese and curd imports reached $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the largest importer of cheese and curd, committing 36% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Iraq (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Oman (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 45% share of total imports. The following importers - Bahrain (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) - each amounted to a 7.4% share of total imports.
Imports into Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iraq (+4.0%), the United Arab Emirates (+2.4%) and Yemen (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +4.0% from 2012-2022. Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Jordan (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Saudi Arabia (+4.4 p.p.) and Iraq (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kuwait saw its share reduced by -2.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest cheese and curd importing markets in the Middle East were Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Iraq ($X), with a combined 59% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +4.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
