In value terms, cheese and curd exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the major exporters of cheese and curd in the Middle East, together constituting 75% of total exports. In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. At the same time, Iraq (+4.0%), the United Arab Emirates (+2.4%) and Yemen (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +4.0% from 2012-2022. Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Jordan (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Saudi Arabia (+4.4 p.p.) and Iraq (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kuwait saw its share reduced by -2.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest cheese and curd importing markets in the Middle East were Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Iraq ($X), with a combined 59% share of total imports.
