Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +16.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iran (+43.9%), Saudi Arabia (+19.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+14.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +43.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Turkey (+2.9 p.p.) and Iran (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest chicken meat supplier in the Middle East, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 5.2% share.

In Turkey, chicken meat exports increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+19.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+8.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible setback. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of chicken meat in the Middle East expanded remarkably to X tons, picking up by 12% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of chicken meat, namely Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Kuwait (X tons) took a 6.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Yemen (6.1%) and Oman (4.6%). Qatar (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +5.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), Iraq ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 71% of total imports.

Iraq, with a CAGR of +4.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) and Kuwait ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and Yemen ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
