From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead exports dropped notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Turkey (X litres) and the United Arab Emirates (X litres) represented the major exporters of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages in the Middle East, together recording near 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Israel (X litres), comprising an 11% share of total exports. The following exporters - Palestine (X litres), Saudi Arabia (X litres) and Iran (X litres) - each accounted for a 12% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +11.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, cider, perry and mead imports in the Middle East surged to X litres, with an increase of 19% compared with 2020 figures. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +8.3% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, the largest cider, perry and mead importing markets in the Middle East were Israel ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Bahrain ($X), together accounting for 91% of total imports. Turkey, Kuwait and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.9%.
