The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. Turkey prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 97% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +10.5% from 2012-2022. Turkey (+18 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest cocoa butter supplier in the Middle East, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 3.1% share of total exports.

In 2022, the amount of cocoa butter imported in the Middle East dropped to X tons, with a decrease of -9.1% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, cocoa butter imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +17.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. Turkey was the key importer of cocoa butter in the Middle East, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 50% of total imports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Israel (13%), Saudi Arabia (6.8%) and Iran (5.7%).

At the same time, Israel (+4.6%) and Saudi Arabia (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +4.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.2%) and Iran (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+6 p.p.) and Israel (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Iran and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -2.1% and -6.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cocoa butter in the Middle East, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 13% share.

In Turkey, cocoa butter imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+4.7% per year) and Israel (+7.1% per year).

Based on 2022 figures, cocoa butter import price decreased by -16.5% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 49%.
