In 2022, the Middle Eastern common pottery market decreased by -21.6% to $X, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption saw a slight contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Turkey dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 82% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 9.5% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Iran (6.2%).

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the common pottery exports, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iran (+7.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Turkey (+5.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest common pottery supplier in the Middle East, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 7.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +9.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+4.9% per year) and Iran (+5.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2022, the amount of common pottery imported in the Middle East reduced sharply to X tons, waning by -34.8% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery imports declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
