Common Pottery Market Size in the Middle East
In 2022, the Middle Eastern common pottery market decreased by -21.6% to $X, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption saw a slight contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the Middle East
In 2022, overseas shipments of common pottery decreased by -3.1% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, common pottery exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 81%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 82% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a 9.5% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Iran (6.2%).
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the common pottery exports, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iran (+7.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Turkey (+5.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-2.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest common pottery supplier in the Middle East, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 7.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +9.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+4.9% per year) and Iran (+5.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Common Pottery Imports
Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, the amount of common pottery imported in the Middle East reduced sharply to X tons, waning by -34.8% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 23%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, common pottery imports declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) represented roughly 77% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons), achieving a 4.7% share of total imports. Oman (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +9.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest common pottery importing markets in the Middle East were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Qatar ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. Israel, Kuwait, Iraq and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +9.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
