In value terms, corrugated paper exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the largest exporter of corrugated paper and paperboard in the Middle East, comprising 77% of total export. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), generating a 16% share of total exports. The following exporters - Jordan (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - together made up 5.8% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +84.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Bahrain ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 74% of total exports. Turkey, Jordan and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +81.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 25% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Jordan ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) and Bahrain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, after five years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of corrugated paper and paperboard, when their volume increased by 17% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 114%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, corrugated paper imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the key importers of corrugated paper and paperboard in 2021, reaching near 30% and 28% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), Oman (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons), together committing a 34% share of total imports. Iraq (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +19.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Oman, Israel, Bahrain and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Israel, with a CAGR of +17.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 32%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
