The Middle Eastern crude rapeseed oil market expanded significantly to $X in 2022, surging by 11% against the previous year. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 54% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. After three years of growth, overseas shipments of crude rape, colza or mustard oil decreased by -18.2% to X tons in 2022. Total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +52.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, crude rapeseed oil exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 62%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the largest exporter of crude rape, colza or mustard oil in the Middle East, making up 99% of total export.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crude rape, colza or mustard oil exports, with a CAGR of +3.2% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of crude rape, colza or mustard oil increased by 85% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports showed a prominent expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, crude rapeseed oil imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 98% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) was the largest importer of crude rape, colza or mustard oil, constituting 65% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Iran (9.4%) and Israel (6.7%). The following importers - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) - together made up 5.3% of total imports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crude rape, colza or mustard oil imports, with a CAGR of +76.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+27.2%), Israel (+12.0%), Qatar (+9.3%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Iran (-15.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Israel increased by +64, +11 and +3.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crude rape, colza or mustard oil in the Middle East, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with an 8% share.

In Turkey, crude rapeseed oil imports increased at an average annual rate of +71.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+26.0% per year) and Israel (+12.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
