The third position in this ranking was held by Iraq (X tons), with a 5.6% share.
In Turkey, cucumber and gherkin production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Iran (-16.0% per year) and Iraq (-6.4% per year).
The average cucumber and gherkin yield reduced to X tons per ha in 2022, which is down by -2% against the year before. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the cucumber and gherkin yield attained the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cucumber and gherkin exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X tons) represented the largest exporter of cucumbers and gherkins, committing 70% of total exports. Iran (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Jordan (X tons). All these countries together took near 28% share of total exports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cucumbers and gherkins exports, with a CAGR of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022. Iran (-9.3%) and Jordan (-19.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+39 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Iran (-8.2 p.p.) and Jordan (-28.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest cucumber and gherkin supplier in the Middle East, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Jordan ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.
In Turkey, cucumber and gherkin exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Jordan (-15.2% per year) and Iran (-17.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of cucumbers and gherkins, when their volume decreased by -2.6% to X tons. In general, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 127% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.
In value terms, cucumber and gherkin imports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 84%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Iraq prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 85% of total imports in 2022. Kuwait (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Israel (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Iraq was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cucumbers and gherkins imports, with a CAGR of +40.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kuwait (+5.4%), Israel (+4.7%), Bahrain (+3.0%) and Qatar (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Iraq increased by +76 percentage points.
In value terms, Iraq ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cucumbers and gherkins in the Middle East, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with an 8.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Iraq totaled +39.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (+18.7% per year) and Kuwait (+8.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 13%.
