The Middle Eastern densified wood market declined to $X in 2022, waning by -8.9% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, densified wood exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 114%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey was the main exporter of densified wood in the Middle East, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 56% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together constituting a 37% share of total exports. Palestine (X tons) and Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Turkey decreased at an average annual rate of -13.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+38.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (+8.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +38.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Palestine (-3.2%) and Israel (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Oman (+20 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+14 p.p.) and Palestine (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Turkey saw its share reduced by -29.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest densified wood supplier in the Middle East, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at -13.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+34.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.7% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, surging by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2022, approx. X tons of densified wood were imported in the Middle East; waning by -25.2% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 129%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, densified wood imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Iran (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together creating 86% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X tons), generating a 5.2% share of total imports. The following importers - Bahrain (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) - together made up 7.1% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +31.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Iran ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported densified wood in the Middle East, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 5.4% share.

In Iran, densified wood imports increased at an average annual rate of +19.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+24.8% per year) and Turkey (-1.6% per year).
