Desktop Computer Market Size in the Middle East

After two years of growth, the Middle Eastern desktop computer market decreased by -3.9% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a mild downturn. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, desktop computer production fell modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. In 2021, shipments abroad of desktop computers was finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, desktop computer exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 77%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 84% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units), constituting a 7.9% share of total exports. The following exporters - Israel (X units) and Kuwait (X units) - each recorded a 6.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to desktop computer exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +5.8%. At the same time, Kuwait (+36.8%) and Israel (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +36.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkey (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait increased by +32 and +2.7 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest desktop computer supplier in the Middle East, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +12.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Israel (+22.1% per year) and Turkey (-2.6% per year).

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -32.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 50%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Kuwait ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+15.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, imports of desktop computers in the Middle East dropped to X units, waning by -6.7% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, desktop computer imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The United Arab Emirates was the main importer of desktop computers in the Middle East, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 35% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X units), Turkey (X units), Israel (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units), together making up a 53% share of total imports. Iraq (X units) and Lebanon (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Lebanon (with a CAGR of +27.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported desktop computers in the Middle East, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 13% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, desktop computer imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-2.6% per year) and Turkey (+11.7% per year).
