The Middle Eastern plastic tableware and kitchenware market shrank to $X in 2022, dropping by -8.3% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of plastic tableware and kitchenware, when their volume decreased by -9.2% to X tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 17%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports reached $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +33.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Turkey was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together creating a 17% share of total exports. The following exporters - Israel (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - together made up 6.1% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from Turkey stood at +10.0%. At the same time, Kuwait (+11.2%) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kuwait emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +11.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Israel (-3.9%) and Saudi Arabia (-8.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+30 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates, Israel and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -3.9%, -5.3% and -14.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest plastic tableware and kitchenware supplier in the Middle East, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +9.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+10.0% per year) and Israel (-1.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X tons of plastic tableware and kitchenware were imported in the Middle East; which is down by -10.4% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 22%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 29%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Israel (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Oman (X tons) were the major importers of plastic tableware and kitchenware, together creating 89% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Yemen (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic tableware and kitchenware importing markets in the Middle East were Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. Iraq, Kuwait, Yemen and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Among the main importing countries, Yemen, with a CAGR of +19.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -3.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 7.2%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
