Dolomite Market Size in the Middle East

The Middle Eastern dolomite market expanded markedly to $X in 2021, increasing by 8.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a mild decline. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the Middle East

Dolomite exports soared to X tons in 2021, rising by 33% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 149% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, dolomite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 83%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total exports.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+28.7%) and Turkey (+11.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +28.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia increased by +4 and +2.9 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest dolomite supplier in the Middle East, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In the United Arab Emirates, dolomite exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+21.9% per year) and Turkey (+9.5% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 41%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, approx. X tons of chalk and dolomite were imported in the Middle East; increasing by 29% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 158%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 58% of total imports. Qatar (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Bahrain (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 34% share of total imports. The following importers - Israel (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - together made up 6% of total imports.

Imports into Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +82.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Qatar (+101.4%), Bahrain (+40.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +101.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Israel (-7.6%) and Lebanon (-11.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain increased by +58, +17 and +9.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chalk and dolomite in the Middle East, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahrain ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Lebanon, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Saudi Arabia stood at +55.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bahrain (+38.1% per year) and Lebanon (-11.6% per year).
