Dolomite Market Size in the Middle East
In 2021, the Middle Eastern dolomite market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Dolomite Production in the Middle East
In value terms, dolomite production expanded significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.
Dolomite Exports
Exports in the Middle East
Dolomite exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, increasing by 36% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 149% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, dolomite exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 127% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Turkey (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - together made up 7.2% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +12.2%. At the same time, Turkey (+24.0%) and Oman (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +24.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +2.3 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest dolomite supplier in the Middle East, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 7.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates amounted to +9.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+18.0% per year) and Oman (+9.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Dolomite Imports
Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, overseas purchases of dolomite decreased by -8.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 258% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dolomite imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 121% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Qatar represented the major importer of dolomite in the Middle East, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2021. Israel (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (6.9%) and Bahrain (6%).
Qatar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dolomite imports, with a CAGR of +135.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+53.2%) and the United Arab Emirates (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Israel (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Qatar (+73 p.p.) and Bahrain (+5.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Israel saw its share reduced by -61.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Qatar ($X), Israel ($X) and Bahrain ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 72% share of total imports.
Qatar, with a CAGR of +66.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 87%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
