The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. In 2022, imports of dried grapes in the Middle East shrank sharply to X tons, falling by -18.9% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 87%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) represented the main importer of dried grapes, making up 39% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Yemen (11%), the United Arab Emirates (8.6%) and Israel (5.4%). The following importers - Iran (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) - together made up 9.5% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to dried grapes imports into Turkey stood at +31.0%. At the same time, Yemen (+62.8%), Iraq (+35.4%), Iran (+15.2%), Jordan (+13.4%) and Israel (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Yemen emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +62.8% from 2012-2022. Saudi Arabia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+32 p.p.), Yemen (+11 p.p.) and Iraq (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Israel (-3.1 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (-17.6 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (-21.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dried grapes in the Middle East, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 10% share.

In Turkey, dried grapes imports expanded at an average annual rate of +26.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+2.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-2.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
