The Middle Eastern duck and goose meat market declined to $X in 2022, which is down by -9.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a slight increase. Production of Duck and Goose Meat in the Middle East
In value terms, duck and goose meat production skyrocketed to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 269%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Iran (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), with a combined 79% share of total production.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +10.0%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2022, the average yield of duck and goose meat in the Middle East shrank to X kg per head, waning by -14.6% against the year before. Over the period under review, the yield, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the yield increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X kg per head, and then shrank in the following year.
In 2022, the number of animals slaughtered for duck and goose meat production in the Middle East contracted slightly to X heads, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year's figure. In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of duck and goose meat, when their volume decreased by -67% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, duck and goose meat exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), creating a 6.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to duck and goose meat exports from Turkey stood at +8.2%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +9.5% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey and the United Arab Emirates increased by +57 and +4.4 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest duck and goose meat supplier in the Middle East, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at +4.3%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey stood at $X per ton.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, approx. X tons of duck and goose meat were imported in the Middle East; which is down by -26.4% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 222% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, duck and goose meat imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 167% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Iraq (X tons) represented the key importer of duck and goose meat, creating 49% of total imports. Israel (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons). All these countries together held near 43% share of total imports. Qatar (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to duck and goose meat imports into Iraq stood at +17.1%. At the same time, Bahrain (+23.8%), Yemen (+20.7%), Israel (+9.8%) and Kuwait (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +23.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.1%) and Qatar (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Iraq (+34 p.p.), Israel (+7.3 p.p.), Bahrain (+4 p.p.) and Yemen (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the United Arab Emirates and Qatar saw its share reduced by -9.5% and -10% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Israel ($X), Iraq ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 83% of total imports. Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
Yemen, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -12.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 120%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
