After three years of growth, the Middle Eastern automotive lighting market decreased by -7.9% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption posted a buoyant increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, automotive lighting production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 40% against the previous year. In 2021, shipments abroad of automotive lighting decreased by -24.5% to X units, falling for the seventh year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 47%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, automotive lighting exports amounted to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 83% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), making up a 9.6% share of total exports. The following exporters - Oman (X units) and Israel (X units) - each accounted for a 5.5% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey decreased at an average annual rate of -17.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+45.4%) and Israel (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +45.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Israel increased by +6.2, +3 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest automotive lighting supplier in the Middle East, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 8% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 0.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +6.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+8.9% per year) and Oman (+52.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 45% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 50%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Israel ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+28.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, supplies from abroad of automotive lighting was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, automotive lighting imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units), Turkey (X units), Iran (X units) and Iraq (X units) was the main importer of automotive lighting in the Middle East, mixing up 87% of total import. It was distantly followed by Israel (X units), achieving a 5.6% share of total imports. Jordan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +6.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. Import price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, automotive lighting import price increased by +25.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Iran ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
