Filter Block Market Size in the Middle East
In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in the Middle Eastern filter block market, when its value decreased by -55.8% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a measured expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Filter Block Production in the Middle East
In value terms, filter block production surged to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 426%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in the Middle East
In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp, when their volume decreased by -6.2% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, filter block exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Syrian Arab Republic represented the key exporter of filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp in the Middle East, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 80% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), generating an 18% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to filter block exports from Syrian Arab Republic stood at +16.8%. At the same time, Turkey (+32.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +32.9% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey increased by +13 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest filter block supplier in the Middle East, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Syrian Arab Republic ($X), with a 28% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +36.1%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, surging by 21% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.4%).
Filter Block Imports
Imports in the Middle East
In 2022, the amount of filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp imported in the Middle East declined significantly to X tons, which is down by -58.4% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 236% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, filter block imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Turkey was the major importer of filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp in the Middle East, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Bahrain (X tons) and Israel (X tons). All these countries together held near 23% share of total imports. The following importers - Qatar (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) - each accounted for a 4.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to filter block imports into Turkey stood at +6.7%. At the same time, Bahrain (+28.0%), the United Arab Emirates (+20.9%) and Israel (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +28.0% from 2012-2022. Syrian Arab Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Qatar (-9.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Israel increased by +54, +11, +5.5 and +4.3 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported filter blocks, slabs and plates of paper pulp in the Middle East, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at +5.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+18.2% per year) and Israel (+8.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 127% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+16.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
