The Middle Eastern fireclay market dropped to $X in 2021, reducing by -6.5% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a slight reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 382%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.
In value terms, fireclay exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 121%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Israel (X tons) was the main exporter of fireclay in the Middle East, constituting 84% of total export. Iran (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 9.3% share, followed by Lebanon (4.6%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Lebanon (with a CAGR of +137.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) emerged as the largest fireclay supplier in the Middle East, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 7% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 6.4% share.

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 69% against the previous year. Export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, fireclay export price decreased by -22.7% against 2019 indices. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (-0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Fireclay Imports
Imports in the Middle East
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of fireclay increased by 26% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fireclay imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together generating 88% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), committing a 7.6% share of total imports. Palestine (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Palestine (with a CAGR of +26.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Iran ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 88% share of total imports. Palestine lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 10%.
Palestine, with a CAGR of +27.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
