The Middle Eastern LCDs and plasmas market dropped slightly to $X in 2022, waning by -3.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a deep downturn. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of flat panel video monitor, lcd or plasma decreased by -15.6% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 483%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, LCDs and plasmas exports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 163% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Oman (X units) represented the key exporter of flat panel video monitor, lcd or plasma, mixing up 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units), Israel (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units), together generating a 34% share of total exports. The following exporters - Bahrain (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) - each reached a 4.3% share of total exports.

Exports from Oman increased at an average annual rate of +48.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bahrain (+54.1%) and Turkey (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +54.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-1.5%), the United Arab Emirates (-2.4%) and Israel (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Oman (+58 p.p.) and Bahrain (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Saudi Arabia (-2.5 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (-9.3 p.p.) and Israel (-46.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Israel ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 85% of total exports. Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

Bahrain, with a CAGR of +48.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -11.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, LCDs and plasmas imports stood at $X in 2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-10.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey and Bahrain increased by +41 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
