In value terms, leather footwear exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Turkey dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), comprising a 9.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to leather footwear exports from Turkey stood at +7.3%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey and the United Arab Emirates increased by +14 and +2.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest leather footwear supplier in the Middle East, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 9.1% share of total exports.

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per kg in 2021, with a decrease of -7.8% against the previous year. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Imports in the Middle East

In 2021, approx. X tons of leather footwear were imported in the Middle East; increasing by 26% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, leather footwear imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Israel (X tons) represented the largest importers of leather footwear in 2021, finishing at near 27% and 19% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Iraq (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Qatar (X tons), together committing a 45% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Yemen (with a CAGR of +25.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest leather footwear importing markets in the Middle East were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Israel ($X) and Turkey ($X), with a combined 66% share of total imports. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

Among the main importing countries, Yemen, with a CAGR of +28.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per kg in 2021, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per kg), while Iraq ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+17.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
