In 2021, the Middle Eastern market for non-woven, felt and coated textile garments decreased by -38.5% to $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, production of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +20.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports in the Middle East
In 2021, the amount of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments exported in the Middle East fell to X units, declining by -12.2% against 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 317%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments dropped notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1,269%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey represented the major exporter of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments in the Middle East, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 61% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Oman (X units). All these countries together took near 33% share of total exports. The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X units) and Syrian Arab Republic (X units) - each reached a 4.1% share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +48.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+54.3%), Saudi Arabia (+7.9%) and Syrian Arab Republic (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +54.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+58 p.p.) and Oman (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -69.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest non-woven, felt and coated textile garment supplier in the Middle East, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 5% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +38.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (-4.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+2.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -51.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 228%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then dropped notably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East
Imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments dropped significantly to X units in 2021, falling by -39.7% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 209%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 60%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Qatar (X units), distantly followed by Oman (X units), Iraq (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Turkey (X units) and Bahrain (X units) represented the largest importers of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments, together making up 81% of total imports. The following importers - Jordan (X units) and Kuwait (X units) - each accounted for an 8.4% share of total imports.
Qatar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the non-woven, felt and coated textile garments imports, with a CAGR of +32.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+19.5%), Jordan (+10.9%), Kuwait (+5.6%) and Iraq (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.3%), Turkey (-5.4%) and Oman (-10.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Qatar (+26 p.p.), Bahrain (+4.9 p.p.) and Jordan (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Oman saw its share reduced by -3.8%, -5.9% and -25.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Iraq ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 45% of total imports. These countries were followed by Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman and Bahrain, which together accounted for a further 21%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Jordan, with a CAGR of +10.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 50%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
