In 2022, the Middle Eastern ginger market decreased by -20% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), Iran (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Jordan (X tons), together constituting a 57% share of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) and Palestine (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +51.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Iran ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 73% of total exports. Oman, Jordan, Palestine and Kuwait lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

Oman, with a CAGR of +43.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ginger export price increased by +90.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 33%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -14.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ginger imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The United Arab Emirates represented the major importer of ginger in the Middle East, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 46% of total imports in 2022.
