Exports from Turkey decreased at an average annual rate of -2.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+30.6%) and Saudi Arabia (+25.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +30.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Oman (-6.3%) and Bahrain (-17.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+23 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkey (-5.1 p.p.) and Bahrain (-25.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest glass fibre filament supplier in the Middle East, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to -3.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+20.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+37.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, surging by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, approx. X tons of glass fibre filaments were imported in the Middle East; growing by 31% against the previous year. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +47.8% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
