The Middle Eastern crude glycerol market rose sharply to $X in 2021, picking up by 6.9% against the previous year. In value terms, crude glycerol exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 210%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 65% of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Iran (X tons). All these countries together took near 31% share of total exports. Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +23.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Iran (+54.8%), Saudi Arabia (+33.3%) and Jordan (+30.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +54.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-25.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+58 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (+17 p.p.), Iran (+4.5 p.p.) and Jordan (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -82.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest crude glycerol supplier in the Middle East, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +24.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+37.4% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-18.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 55% against the previous year. In 2021, crude glycerol imports in the Middle East expanded markedly to X tons, rising by 10% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports enjoyed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, crude glycerol imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 110%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the key importer of crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes, achieving 67% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Iran (11%).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crude glycerol, glycerine waters and lyes in the Middle East, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 22% share of total imports.
