Graphic Papers Market Size in the Middle East

In 2022, the Middle Eastern graphic papers market increased by 15% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After five years of growth, overseas shipments of graphic papers decreased by -16.1% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, graphic papers exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the major exporter of graphic papers, comprising 70% of total exports. Turkey (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Saudi Arabia (8.7%) and Israel (8.4%).

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the graphic papers exports, with a CAGR of +25.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkey (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-2.3%) and Israel (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest graphic papers supplier in the Middle East, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 12% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, graphic papers exports expanded at an average annual rate of +21.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+5.6% per year) and Israel (-6.6% per year).

The export price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East

Graphic papers imports reduced modestly to X tons in 2022, waning by -2.2% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 7.3% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, graphic papers imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Iran (X tons) were the major importers of graphic papers, together constituting 85% of total imports. The following importers - Iraq (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) - each recorded a 5.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +13.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported graphic papers in the Middle East, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+1.4% per year) and Israel (+0.3% per year).

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
