Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, hand-made lace exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 377%. In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest hand-made lace supplier in the Middle East, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.

In 2022, purchases abroad of hand-made lace in the piece, in strips or in motifs was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted slight growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 859% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hand-made lace imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 905% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 92% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Iraq (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) - each finished at a 5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hand-made lace imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at +6.6%. At the same time, Yemen (+25.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Yemen emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +25.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Jordan (-15.0%) and Iraq (-23.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the United Arab Emirates (+35 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Jordan (-7.9 p.p.) and Iraq (-25.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hand-made lace in the piece, in strips or in motifs in the Middle East, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Yemen ($X), with a 1.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Iraq, with a 1% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, hand-made lace imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Yemen (+25.1% per year) and Iraq (-28.7% per year).
