Exports in the Middle East
In 2021, approx. X tons of hand tools were exported in the Middle East; jumping by 40% on the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, hand tools exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), committing an 18% share of total exports. Lebanon (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Palestine (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hand tools exports, with a CAGR of +9.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Palestine (+7.7%) and Lebanon (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.2%) and Israel (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+25 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Israel and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -2.3% and -14.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest hand tools supplier in the Middle East, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey totaled +8.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+2.5% per year) and Israel (-0.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, surging by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Palestine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Hand Tools Imports
Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, the amount of hand tools imported in the Middle East expanded rapidly to X tons, picking up by 7.9% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hand tools imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of hand tools, namely the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, represented more than half of total import. Turkey (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Iran (4.7%). Yemen (X tons), Israel (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Oman (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +6.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 61% share of total imports. Iraq, Israel, Iran, Qatar, Yemen, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
Iraq, with a CAGR of +11.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
