The Middle Eastern hazelnut market expanded to $X in 2021, surging by 5% against the previous year. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Israel (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +37.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest hazelnut importing markets in the Middle East were Iran ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Iraq ($X), together accounting for 79% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Iran, with a CAGR of +38.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -24.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, hazelnut import price increased by +2.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 35%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
