In 2021, the Middle Eastern herbicide market decreased by -58.1% to $X, falling for the fourth year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, consumption recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the Middle East
In 2021, the amount of herbicides exported in the Middle East reduced to X tons, dropping by -8.1% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, herbicide exports declined to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Israel dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 83% of total exports in 2021. Turkey (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 8.3% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (6.1%). Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Israel decreased at an average annual rate of -4.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+14.0%), Turkey (+8.6%) and Jordan (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +14.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Turkey (+5.3 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Israel (-10.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest herbicide supplier in the Middle East, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 5.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Jordan, with a 1.5% share.
In Israel, herbicide exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+10.4% per year) and Jordan (+2.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -5.2% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, herbicide export price decreased by -9.9% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 49%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, approx. X tons of herbicides were imported in the Middle East; falling by -7.9% on 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, herbicide imports stood at $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 15%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Turkey (X tons), distantly followed by Iran (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Israel (X tons) were the key importers of herbicides, together committing 86% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Palestine (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +36.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported herbicides in the Middle East, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iraq ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with an 11% share.
In Turkey, herbicide imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Iraq (+41.2% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-0.5% per year).
