Vegetable Puree Market Size in the Middle East

In 2022, the Middle Eastern vegetable puree market increased by 2.4% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable puree production reduced slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by +1.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 39%. Exports in the Middle East

In 2022, shipments abroad of vegetable puree increased by less than 0.1% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 61%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, vegetable puree exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Jordan was the main exporter of vegetable puree in the Middle East, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 61% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), together committing a 23% share of total exports. Lebanon (X tons), Iran (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Jordan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the vegetable puree exports, with a CAGR of +33.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+19.6%), Iran (+11.2%) and Syrian Arab Republic (+7.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. The United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Turkey (-10.2%) and Lebanon (-22.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Syrian Arab Republic increased by +57, +10, +2.2 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Jordan ($X) remains the largest vegetable puree supplier in the Middle East, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 5.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 4.3% share.

In Jordan, vegetable puree exports expanded at an average annual rate of +46.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+23.1% per year) and Turkey (-14.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, growing by 45% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+9.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the Middle East

Vegetable puree imports declined to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -8.1% on the previous year. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +13.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable puree imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 126% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Yemen was the key importer of vegetable puree in the Middle East, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 38% of total imports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kuwait (15%), Iraq (10%), Oman (4.8%) and Lebanon (4.7%). Turkey (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Yemen was also the fastest-growing in terms of the vegetable puree imports, with a CAGR of +29.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iraq (+20.4%), Kuwait (+13.5%), Turkey (+9.2%), Lebanon (+3.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Oman (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Yemen, Kuwait, Iraq and Turkey increased by +34, +9.2, +8.1 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kuwait ($X), Yemen ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 65% of total imports.

Yemen, with a CAGR of +28.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 20% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
