The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a strong expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the main exporter of hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rods in the Middle East, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 61% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together creating a 32% share of total exports. Iran (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+44.7%), Iran (+35.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (+8.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +44.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Saudi Arabia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates increased by +8.5, +3.7 and +3.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod supplier in the Middle East, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with an 8.3% share.
In Turkey, hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+7.4% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+44.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East
In 2021, overseas purchases of hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rods increased by 25% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after seven years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible decline. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Israel represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 37% of total imports. Turkey (X tons) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Saudi Arabia (11%), Yemen (9.5%) and Kuwait (4.8%). The following importers - Jordan (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) - each recorded an 8.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kuwait (with a CAGR of +56.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest hot-rolled non-alloy steel wire rod importing markets in the Middle East were Israel ($X), Turkey ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), with a combined 75% share of total imports. Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.
Kuwait, with a CAGR of +53.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
