Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 166%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fruit-preparation industrial machinery exports dropped slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 45%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey was the major exporter of industrial machinery for the preparation of fruits, nuts or vegetables in the Middle East, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 66% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), creating a 23% share of total exports. The following exporters - Jordan (X units), Bahrain (X units) and Lebanon (X units) - together made up 7.2% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fruit-preparation industrial machinery exports from Turkey stood at +6.8%. At the same time, Jordan (+36.1%), Bahrain (+9.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +36.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Lebanon (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+3.6 p.p.) and Jordan (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon saw its share reduced by -2.4% and -3.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest fruit-preparation industrial machinery supplier in the Middle East, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 1.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +8.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+5.3% per year) and Lebanon (-12.8% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per unit, surging by 25% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Bahrain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the Middle East

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of industrial machinery for the preparation of fruits, nuts or vegetables increased by 105% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fruit-preparation industrial machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +49.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 33%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Qatar represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which finished at 70% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X units), Israel (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units), together committing a 25% share of total imports. Iraq (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fruit-preparation industrial machinery imports into Qatar stood at +21.3%. At the same time, Iraq (+24.5%), the United Arab Emirates (+19.8%), Israel (+17.2%) and Turkey (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +24.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of Qatar (+27 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Turkey (-16.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Israel ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 82% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +25.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the Middle East stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -37.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 65%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
