Exports in the Middle East

In 2021, fungicide and bactericide exports in the Middle East contracted slightly to X tons, shrinking by -4.5% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 73%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide exports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 71%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Israel represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 82% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), comprising a 15% share of total exports.

Exports from Israel increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkey (+14.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +14.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of Turkey (+7.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Israel (-8.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest fungicide and bactericide supplier in the Middle East, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In Israel, fungicide and bactericide exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the Middle East amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. Fungicide and bactericide imports totaled X tons in 2021, picking up by 5% on the year before. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -0.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +17.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 26%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Turkey was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Israel (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Iran (X tons), together committing a 33% share of total imports. The following importers - Iraq (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) - together made up 5.1% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fungicide and bactericide imports into Turkey stood at +4.4%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+40.2%), Iraq (+24.3%), Saudi Arabia (+8.6%), Iran (+6.2%) and Israel (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the Middle East, with a CAGR of +40.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Lebanon (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Saudi Arabia increased by +13, +2.3 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
